Updates on the highly anticipated Malayalam film Empuraan have started to emerge after multiple delays caused by scheduling conflicts and director Prithviraj Sukumaran's accident.

The director recently shared a look of the film on social, which featured a ring similar to the cicada ring seen in the last scene of Lucifer. The ring has blood stains on it and is left behind on sand. The poster hints at the old tale of Lucifer who amputated his wings as a gesture of ultimate defiance to god.

Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, and Indrajith Sukumaran in Empuraan

Prithviraj also tagged Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, and Indrajith Sukumaran in the post, suggesting that they will reprise their roles in the Lucifer sequel.

The Empuraan team will not only include the actors, but also the technicians who worked on the prequel. The music will be composed by Deepak Dev, and Sujith Vaassudev will handle the cinematography. Director Nirmal Sahadev, known for Kumari and Ranam, along with Vaava Kottarakkara are the associate directors. Prithviraj Productions will support Aashirvad Cinemas in the production of Empuraan.

Empuraan shoot to begin on October 5

There are reports that the filming of Empuraan will begin on October 5. Originally, the shoot was supposed to begin in August, but plans changed when Prithviraj was injured on the set of Vilayath Buddha. The actor had to undergo knee surgery and physiotherapy sessions, which delayed the shoot of Empuraan. Meanwhile, Mohanlal used the time to complete Jeethu Joseph's courtroom drama Neru.

Lucifer and it's sequel, Empuraan

Empuraan is the sequel to the hit 2019 film Lucifer, directed by Prithviraj, with Mohanlal playing the role of Stephen Nedumbally, aka Khureshi Ab'raam. In the sequel, Mohanlal will reprise his role while Prithviraj will play the character of Zayed Masood, who was a henchman of Stephen in the first film.

Prithviraj clarified that while the movie is not a direct sequel to Lucifer, it will still feature flashbacks to the past and present of Mohanlal's character Khureshi Ab'raam, as well as other characters. The film is expected to be shot in various foreign countries, with a budget of around Rs 150 crore.
