Prithviraj Sukumaran’s highly anticipated film, Empuraan with Mohanlal, has made a triumphant start at the ticket counter in advance sales. Within hours of the start of advance booking, the Mohanlal-starrer saw unprecedented sales, shattering records on BookMyShow. The Malayalam multi-starrer film has beaten the hourly pre-sales of Allu Arjun’s blockbuster Pushpa 2 and Vijay’s Leo.
Empuraan’s record-breaking advance ticket sales
The Mohanlal-starrer Empuraan was off to a flying start at the ticket counter on March 21, 2025, as the All-India advance booking for the Malayalam thriller film was opened at 9.00 am. But within hours, the film registered a record number of ticket sales. As per online trackers, over 96.14K tickets were sold in just an hour for the second installment of the Lucifer franchise. This is the highest hourly pre-sales ever in Indian cinema on BookMyShow.
Previously, the record for the most hourly pre-ticket sales were held by Thalapathy Vijay’s Leo with 82K and Allu Arjun’s blockbuster hit Pushpa2 with 80K.
The Empuraan worldwide day 1 advance sales have reportedly crossed 20.8 crore, making it the biggest opener from Mollywood.
With this, it is certain that Empuraan is set for a spectacular start at the box office when it releases in theatres worldwide on March 27, 2025. The first-day-first-shows begin at 6 am, and most of the fan shows have been sold out, reports state. Several videos have been posted online that show fans rushing to book their tickets at various centres across Kerala.
If the film wins positive reception in its opening days, Malayalam cinema can count on getting another blockbuster film of Mohanlal.

As the Empuraan ticket sales are going through the roof, fans have been enthusiastically celebrating the record-breaking feat of the upcoming Malayalam film. Twitter is replete with posters about the BMS record of Empuraan with even fellow Malayalam actors sharing the post on social media.
Fans are also celebrating that the Mohanlal-starrer has beaten the record held by Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay's Leo.
L2 Empuraan, the second installment in the Lucifer franchise, features an enviable cast of Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, Jerome Flynn, Abhimanyu Singh, Eriq Ebouaney, and Suraj Venjaramoodu.
