Jessica Gunning won the 2024 Emmy for best supporting actress in a limited series, anthology, or television movie for her chilling performance as Martha in the Netflix series Baby Reindeer.

Jessica Gunning's emotional speech

"I honestly feel like I’m going to wake up any minute now; this whole thing has been a dream," she started her acceptance speech with, adding, "I’m so incredibly proud to be part of Baby Reindeer. So, I just would love to say a huge thank you to everybody who let me, really."

Gunning was quick to give honours to Richard Gadd, the show's creator and star. "My biggest thanks has to go to Mr. Richard Gadd. I’ve tried so many times to put into words what working on Baby Reindeer meant to me, and I fail every time. So I’m going to sing." She then said, "I’ll keep it simple and just say thank you for trusting me to be your Martha. I will never, ever forget her or you or this. So, thank you."

She faced off against Dakota Fanning of Ripley, Lily Gladstone of Under the Bridge, Nava Mau of Baby Reindeer, Aja Naomi King of Lessons in Chemistry, Diane Lane of Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, and Kali Reis of True Detective: Night Country.

Baby Reindeer and Richard Gadd's Emmy triumph

The smash Netflix series won its first Emmy award, followed by Gadd winning in the Outstanding Writing For A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie category.

The simultaneous strikes by writers and actors last year forced the postponement of the 2023 Emmys, and this year's second ceremony is the 2024 Emmys.

Kristen Wiig, Viola Davis, Lily Gladstone, Selena Gomez, Martin Short, Steve Martin, Mindy Kaling, Jimmy Kimmel, Colin Farrell, Greta Lee, John Leguizamo, George Lopez, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Jean Smart are among the presenters at this year's biggest night on television.

The Bear leads comedy show nominations

With a record-breaking 23 nominations, FX's The Bear leads all comedy shows this year. Only Murders in the Building on Hulu came in at number 21; True Detective: Night Country on HBO/Max was at number 19, and The Crown on Netflix came in at number 18.

Among all the nominees, Netflix had the most, with 107. FX came in second with 93, HBO in third with 91, and Apple TV+ in fourth with 72. Disney received a record-breaking 183 Emmy nominations this year, encompassing projects from FX, ABC, Hulu, and Disney+.
