Poor Things marks Emma Stone’s second contribution with director Yorgos Lanthimos after The Favourite. The 2023 film stars Stone as a naive Victorian woman with a child’s brain in the dark comedy, alongside Mark Ruffalo. Cooper applauded her performance and said, “I love you so dearly as a friend, but to see you soar as an artist in this film, it was really moving. Just your effortless abandon. I think I said this to you: There’s absolutely no one else who could have done that — like, ever.”

For the unversed, this challenging role required Stone to portray a special woman, who is still a baby in the mind. Her baby walk and talk was commended by Cooper. Sharing the stages which made the project also required special rehearsal sessions in Budapest and how working with Yorgos was fun and not just work.

Cooper and Stone on Maestro

Bradley Cooper’s second directorial, Maestro which was released in November this year was in the spotlight for chilling scenes and a power-packed performance. In the recent interview, the two reminisced when Stone attended a special screening with her mother at Cooper’s home.

Cooper portrays the iconic stage and screen composer Leonard Bernstein alongside Carey Mulligan, playing his wife Felicia.

The Silver Linings Playbook actor remembered a scene that was totally doomed in the first take and how went to the church, prayed, and then requested everyone for a second chance, which succeeded beyond expectations.

Sharing his backstory, the actor-turned-director said, “My memory of that was that I was actually floating above the orchestra and that I was able to point to each musician.” He also revealed his immense love for being a conductor and the story dates back to his childhood.

Both the films started with the idea and preparation in 2017, before culminating into the final product in 2023!

“This wasn’t like you got a call, and in six months you’re going to do it. This had to have taken years,“ Cooper added.

Talking about the vulnerability and challenges on the film set, Cooper said, “Just watching your performance, you had to give yourself permission, which I had to do as well, to just jump off the cliff every day, in terms of giving over to — I don’t know — people laughing at us on set, quite honestly.” The La La Land actress also lauded Cooper for writing-directing because ultimately it involves a lot of burden and core responsibility.

Well, it’s true that hardwork is what makes any acting craft worth the wait and watch!
