After all the hype which was surrounding Kangana Ranaut's much-talked a bout film ‘Emergency, the makers have today released the first teaser of the film. The film is definitely special to Kangana in many ways than one. Firstly, the film marks Kangana Ranaut’s solo directorial debut. Secondly, the film sees the feisty actress Kangana Ranaut playing the role of (late) Indira Gandhi, the first female Prime Minister of India. Kangana Ranaut took to social media and shared the teaser of her film ‘Emergency’ and also the film’s release date which is on November 24, 2023.
After sharing the film’s teaser, Kangana Ranaut captioned the post stating, "A protector or a dictator? Witness the darkest phase of our history when the leader of our nation declared a war on its people. #Emergency releasing worldwide on 24th November."
Talking about Emergency, Kangana Ranaut said in a media statement, "Emergency is one of the most significant and darkest chapters in our history that young India needs to know. It is a crucial story and I want to thank my super-talented actors like late Satish ji, Anupam ji, Shreyas, Mahima, and Milind for embarking on this creative journey together. I am excited to bring this extraordinary episode from India’s history to the big screen. Jaihind!"
The film ‘Emergency’s teaser begins with a newspaper cutting that has its headline screaming as ‘State of Emergency declared’. In the background are the protesters who are creating a ruckus on the roads. The scene is interrupted by the veteran actor Anupama Kher’s voiceover wherein he says, “Ye hamari nahi … is desh ki maut hai” (This is not our death but the country's death). For the unversed, Anupam Kher plays the role of the (late) JP Narayan (Jayaprakash Narayan). And when the teaser shows the protesting people being shot on the road in braod daylight, Anupam Kher’s voiceover further adds saying, “Is taanashahi ko rokna hoga (One needs to stop this dictatorship).
After this comes Kangana Ranaut's voiceover as (late) Indira Gandhi, wherein she says, “Mujhe is desh ki raksha karne se koi nahi rokh sakta. Kyunki India is Indira, and Indira is India”. (No one can stop me from protecting this nation. Because, India is Indira, and Indira is India). Post that, the release date of the film gets announced as November 24 this year.
Besides Kangana Ranaut and Anupam Kher, ‘Emergency’ also stars the late actor Satish Kaushik, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, and Shreyas Talpade.
