We know that National Award-winning actress Kangana Ranaut has been very vocal about her point of views in the political sphere. Currently, she is a supporter of the ruling party in India. Recently, she even attended the inauguration ceremony of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, which was graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi among other dignitaries. While the nation continues to be engulfed in religious fervour after the ceremony, Kangana Ranaut added fuel to the news by announcing the details of her upcoming film ‘Emergency’.

A day after participating in the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya, Kangana Ranaut revealed the release date of her forthcoming film Emergency. She took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a new poster of the movie, which she also directed and wrote.

"Unlock the story behind India’s darkest hour. Announcing ‘Emergency’ on June 14, 2024. Witness history coming alive as the most feared and fiercest Prime Minister Indira Gandhi thunders into cinemas. Emergency in cinemas on June 14, 2024,” wrote Kangana on Instagram.

As per a report published by news agency PTI, Kangana believes that Emergency is her most ambitious project and second directorial post-Manikarnika. “We have the best of Indian and international talent come together for this big budget, grand period drama," the actress said. The film was previously set to be released in theatres on November 24, 2023, but was postponed due to reasons best known to them.

Notably, the details of Emergency – the film, has been announced just four months before the commencement of 2024 General Elections in India.

Former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi and the period of Emergency

The period of Emergency in India spanned 21 months from 1975 to 1977, during which Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency nationwide. Acting on the advice of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed declared a state of national emergency on June 25, 1975. Throughout the Emergency, many of Gandhi's political adversaries were detained, and media outlets faced censorship. This phase is considered one of the most contentious periods in Indian history since gaining independence.
