It seems that the wait is finally over for Kangana Ranaut fans who have been waiting to watch her next film. We are of course talking about the film Emergency that is directed by Ranaut and also stars her in the leading role in the same. The film has been in the headlines for over a year and now the makers are finally set to release it after several delays and the last one because of being unable to get a green signal from the Central Board Of Film Certification. Turns out now the movie is finally releasing on the big screen next week on January 17, 2025. We have now figured out where the movie will release on streaming after it has wrapped up its theatrical run.

Emergency on OTT

For the unversed, based on the infamous Emergency period of Indian politics, Emergency stars Kangana Ranaut as the late Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. The film will trace the period between the time Emergency was announced till the time it was lifted and eventually led to Indira Gandhi’s assassination. Directed by Kangana, the film also stars Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Choudhary, Anupam Kher, and others in pivotal parts. Turns out the film, after its time on the big screen, already has a streaming house in place.

As per the streaming partner listed on the poster, Emergency, after its theatrical release, will land on Netflix. You can watch the film with your subscriptions without any added rent. There is no clarity on when the film drops on streaming.

Emergency vs CBFC

Emergency has been making news for a couple of controversies where Sikh bodies and others have demanded a ban on the movie. After an intense episode, it was revealed yesterday that Kangana and her team are making the cuts suggested by the Revising Committee. Now as per a new report, this has left Ranaut and her team unhappy, but they are succumbing to it for the larger good of their movie.

A source close to the development, in conversation with Mid-Day, said, “Even though the team is not happy with the cuts, they have given in to the CBFC’s demands in order to release Emergency on time. The team believes that even after the cuts, the film tells an important story about a significant chapter of our political history.”

The source went on to add how Kangana Ranaut wants the best for the movie, and even if it means succumbing to the CBFC demands, she is fine with it. “The makers are focused on keeping the key parts intact. Despite the challenges, they are waiting to show Emergency to the audience so that they can understand the significance of democracy,” the source added. But the team finally had to agree with the terms and got the green signal.
