While Kangana Ranaut, along with Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, and the team, graces the screen with Emergency, there’s also Aaman Devgan, Rasha Thadani, and Ajay Devgn presenting Azaad. Both films have now been released in theaters, and the first half of the day provides an idea of how the day-one collections might look. The Ranaut directorial has generated more buzz of the two, estimating a higher opening. However, early stats suggest a slow yet decent start compared to her last few releases. 

Emergency Day 1 Box Office Estimates

Emergency tells the story of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, spanning from her oath-taking as the country's first female PM to her assassination, including the Emergency period and Operation Blue Star. Directed by Kangana Ranaut and based on a book by Comi Kapoor, the film was predicted to have a decent opening earlier this week. While early estimates show slight growth, the numbers remain modest.

According to Sacnilk, Emergency is set to earn around ₹1 lakh from early morning shows on its opening day. However, considering advance bookings and on-the-spot ticket sales, the film is expected to grow as the day progresses. With an estimated opening of ₹2-3 crore, this could mark Ranaut’s highest opening post-pandemic. Since the pandemic, the actor has featured in films like Dhaakad, Thalaivii, Tejas, and Chandramukhi 2.

Release Halted in Amritsar and Other Places

However, the release of Kangana Ranaut’s political drama Emergency has been paused in Patiala, Amritsar, and Bathinda, which may impact box office numbers. The decision follows communications from local administration authorities, citing concerns over potential protests and the possibility of incidents that could disrupt public order. Reports indicate this precautionary measure may extend to other cities in Punjab.

Local administrations in these Punjab cities have taken a preemptive stance, suggesting the film’s narrative might provoke unrest among certain groups. Authorities have emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and order, especially given the heightened sensitivity surrounding the film’s content.
