Ek Villain Returns will see Arjun Kapoor take on one of his most vicious avatars yet. The makers had unveiled the film’s trailer on Thursday, which gave a glimpse into the high octane action and thrill audiences can expect from the movie. The trailer also seemed to tease a showdown in the form of what seems to be a showdown between Kapoor and John Abraham. Kapoor recently revealed that he was also meant to be a part of the original 2014 film as well.
At the trailer launch event, as reported by The Economic Times, Kapoor revealed that he had been offered the role in Ek Villain, but had to turn down the role due to his previous commitments. At the time, the actor had been working on Tevar, which his father Boney Kapoor produced. The actor said that he had told the director, Mohit Suri, that it was destiny that Kapoor had been offered the role. “It was meant to be that I am a part of this film. I decided to not let it go”, said Kapoor.
The actor also spoke of how he never shied away from playing grey characters in his career. He gave examples of his roles in films like Ishaqzaade(2012) and Aurangzeb(2013), and said it was exciting for him to ‘come back’ to where he started in his career. Although he had done different genres of films in his career, the actor said he always wanted to go back to the ‘dark side’. Getting the opportunity to do it with the kind of script and set up like Ek Villain Returns also pleased the actor.
With Ek Villain Returns, Kapoor reunites with his Half Girlfriend director Suri. The upcoming film is a spiritual successor to the original 2014 film, also helmed by Suri. Tara Sutaria and Disha Patani also star in the upcoming film.
Ek Villain Returns will hit the big screen on July 29, 2022.
