Eddie Murphy shared his experience reprising the role of action-comedy hero Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. The last time he had appeared as the quirky, heroic cop was nearly forty years ago.

Slated to join the list of Netflix 2024 releases, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F comes nearly thirty years since its previous 1984 film, The fourth addition to the franchise will see the return of original cast Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold and John Ashton as Alex Foley, Billy Rosewood and Taggart respectively. There is also the introduction of Foley’s daughter Jane, which will be portrayed by Taylour Paige.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F follows Detective Axel Foley get back into his groove in Beverly Hills before a case drops in his lap. His daughter Jane’s life is threatened by an unknown conspiracy, which he sets out to discover with her. The father-daughter duo pair up with old-time buddies Billy and Taggart to turn up the heat and make some noise while cracking the case and conspiracy, interspersed with hilarious punch lines.
In an interview with People, Murphy opened up about the difficulties of shooting an action flick after so many decades, the injuries he received, and his personal thoughts on the film. “It was a hard one. I did Axel Foley when I was in my 20s. I am not in my 20s anymore. It was an action movie. So, it was a rough one. But we got through it.”
Eddie Murphy further disclosed how the fourth installment of the Beverly Hills Cop was a really physical film, that required him to undergo rigorous training and perform stunts. He candidly shared that he is a couch potato who does not really enjoy “jumping over and shooting and running.”
However, the film entailed just that and as a result, by the time the film’s shooting ended, Murphy had a messed up back and a knee brace. But one understands how fun doing the film must have been, if after all the physical ordeals mentioned, the actor is excited for people to see it and calls it ‘special’.
