The buzz around "Dunki" is immense, and the film is currently running successfully on the big screen as we speak. Starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the movie has been one of the most anticipated ones across the nation ever since it was announced. The film, which delves into a very interesting concept, opened to mixed reactions from critics and audiences but is also having a decent run at the Box Office. Now, Hirani has spoken about working with Shah Rukh and how it took him 20 years to fulfill his dream of working with the superstar.
About Dunki:
Rajkumar Hirani is known for only serving blockbusters. But this time around, the material was flawed and also borderline inconsistent. But even when the movie was at its weakest, one thing that stood tall and strong was the aura of Shah Rukh Khan and his charm that will never fade, and we will never get enough of. Hirani now talks about working with King Khan and how he had decided to work with him when he was still studying filmmaking.
In a News18 interview, Rajkumar Hirani on shooting with Shah Rukh Khan on the sets of "Dunki" said, “I was enamored by his charm. I would put on an eye mask and earplugs when he was giving a shot. Once he finished, my assistant would tell me, 'Sir, shot khatam ho gaya hai,’ and then I would open my eyes (laughs). Jokes apart, he is an amazing actor and an even better person.”
Further, Rajkumar Hirani spoke about how he was so impressed with Shah Rukh Khan back in the day that he had decided to work with him once he graduated from the film institute. It was the time when SRK had already bagged his first film. He soon rose to fame, and it took a long time for Hirani to approach him. “It took me two years to graduate from the film institute, and by that time, Shah Rukh Khan had become a huge star (laughs). So, I had to wait for 20 years to collaborate with him on a film," the director added.
Dunki Review:
As for "Dunki," the movie is brilliant in the first half where Rajkumar Hirani uses his superpower to build an entertaining world and blends it with Shah Rukh Khan’s magic. But it is the second half that goes haywire with no hook in sight. The movie also ends up giving very little time to the main conflict, that is Dunki, aka the Donkey route.
