Now that Dune: Prophecy Season 1 has ended and the wait for the second season has begun, we have witnessed one of the wildest episodes of the show so far. While the build-up for Dune: Prophecy was balanced and slow, the finale picked up pace and aimed to provide momentary redemption to as many arcs as possible. We were taken deeper into the stories of characters we have loved over the past five weeks, showing how no one here is truly black or white. The Emperor, played by Mark Strong, is finally powerless, realizing this as Desmond Hart moves against him. Meanwhile, Valya must save Princess Ynez because the future of the Sisterhood depends on her survival and her ascension as Empress of the Imperium.
The official synopsis on HBO’s website for Dune: Prophecy reads: "From the expansive universe of Dune, created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, Dune: Prophecy follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit. Dune: Prophecy is inspired by the novel Sisterhood of Dune, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson."
Dune: Prophecy stars Emily Watson as Valya, Olivia Williams as Tula, Travis Fimmel as Desmond Hart, Tabu as Sister Francesca, and Mark Strong as Emperor Corrino. The cast also includes Joshi May, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Camilla Beeput, Jihae, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, and Yerin Ha.
Dune: Prophecy has revolved around the victory of fierce femininity and everything it represents throughout the six episodes of its first season. It has highlighted how powerful the Sisterhood is and has become over time, explaining why their presence in the Dune films is so significant. In the finale, Valya finally reveals her plan to place a Sister on the throne, which makes Ynez the most powerful yet vulnerable character in the show. The entire weight of the Sisterhood rests on her shoulders, and she must survive. Her wedding in Episode 1 and the Sisterhood’s urgency to recruit her now make perfect sense.

In one of the most impactful scenes of the finale, Valya sits on the throne as Emperor Javicco Corrino confronts her and demands she step down. Valya quickly puts him in his place, revealing that the Sisterhood has controlled every aspect of his life—his birth, his youth, and even his path to becoming Emperor were orchestrated by them. To his shock, he learns that even Sister Francesca was sent to distract him and initially did not love him. This revelation leaves him devastated, realizing that he has been a puppet all along and has never tasted true freedom.
While Francesca was sent to Javicco Corrino to keep him in line with the Sisterhood’s plans, she eventually fell in love with him. However, upon discovering the deception, Javicco can no longer trust her. Francesca confesses everything, including Valya’s plan to kill him. Distraught, Javicco decides to take his own life, but Empress Natalya intervenes. In a shocking turn, Natalya uses a poisoned needle to stab Francesca, seemingly killing her. But did Francesca truly die? Only Season 2 can confirm this.
After an intense confrontation where Desmond Hart fights Valya and Tula intervenes to save them both, the drama reaches its peak. Tula chooses her side, and Valya moves forward with her plan. She boards a flight with Ynez and Keiran, heading to Arrakis. The real drama will now unfold on this hotbed of greed and power struggles. The arrival on Arrakis sets the stage for an exciting Season 2, with the potential for Shai-Hulud to finally appear in full.
