Even with just six episodes planned in the first season of the limited series Dune: Prophecy, the makers have taken a slow and steady approach to storytelling. This world feels familiar yet new since the Dune movies we’ve seen occur 10,000 years after the events depicted in the show. The series carefully develops its characters and allows each storyline the time to grow. It delves into the Sisterhood, which operates from the shadows, subtly controlling the Imperium while men believe they hold the reins. We explore Valya, Tula, the enigmatic Desmond Hart, and their roles in a power struggle. Enter Francesca, portrayed by the ever-graceful Tabu, who adds another layer to the story.
Since the show’s inception, Indian audiences have ea gerly awaited Francesca's arrival. Her debut was strategically planned for the fifth episode. A glimpse of her younger self in episode three hinted at her dynamic with Valya and Tula. Francesca now emerges to restore order, similar to Valya, and reunites with her son Constantine. Yes, the charming Constantine from earlier episodes, played by Josh Heuston, is Francesca’s son. This episode showcases her attempt to sway the Emperor back under the Sisterhood's influence and reveals Desmond Hart’s true identity.
In this episode, Tabu debuts as Sister Francesca, a former concubine of Emperor Javicco Corrino and mother of Constantine. Her presence disrupts the royal family, as Javicco’s lingering affection weakens Empress Natalya’s influence. Francesca’s goal is to secure Constantine’s position as the Imperial Fleet’s commander and guide House Corrino back to the Sisterhood. She manipulates Javicco into granting Constantine more authority, sparking his promotion while causing a rift between the Emperor and Empress.
Baron Harrow Harkonnen grows wary of his aunt Valya’s ties to the Sisterhood. After a tense encounter with Desmond Hart, he assists Hart by exposing contraband activities in Zimia but secretly plans to use a listening device from Hart to spy on Valya. Meanwhile, following a bar explosion, Mikaela confronts Valya, who justifies the act as necessary to distract Hart while Francesca influences the Emperor. Mikaela warns Valya not to betray the Fremen as she did the rebels.
Episode 5 unveils Desmond Hart’s true nature through Sister Lila, who returns from death via the Agony. Possessed by Mother Raquella’s genetic memory, Lila has a vision of Hart, foreseeing his potential to lead humanity to destruction. Raquella identifies a virus tied to thinking machines, while Hart’s blood sample reveals Atreides and Harkonnen lineage, linking him to Tula Harkonnen’s past. This forces Tula to confront the prophecy and question whether she can stop her son from fulfilling it.
Dune: Prophecy features Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Tabu, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, and more.
