Box office success and critical acclaim

Following its March theatrical release, the Denis Villeneuve film surpassed $500 million in domestic and international box office receipts, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2024. It has amassed nearly $665 million worldwide. Upon its debut, the film received widespread praise and unexpected financial success. Reviews were overwhelmingly positive, with critics praising the film's visual effects and acting. Some critics ranked it among the all-time great science fiction flicks.

Meanwhile, Villeneuve has stated time and again that he would like to adapt the second book in the series, Dune Messiah, into a film, but that this would be contingent upon the box office success of Dune: Part Two.
