Dulquer Salmaan’s Kurup is all set to get a rousing welcome when it hits theatres in Kerala on November 12. While we had earlier reported that the film exhibitors in the State had given special considerations for the film, we now hear that close to 400 screens in Kerala will be playing the Srinath Rajendran directorial when it opens.

The movie, which also has Sobhitha Dhulipala, Indrajith Sukumaran, Shine Tom Chacko and Sunny Wayne, is inspired by the story of India’s most wanted fugitive Sukumara Kurup. Dulquer plays the titular role in the movie, which encompasses the different phases of his life from the 1960s to the 90s.

Kurup, which is also co-produced by Dulquer, is reportedly made on a budget of Rs 35 Crore and is one of the biggest releases in the young superstar’s career. The film also marks the second time he is collaborating with Srinath after their debut project Second Show, nine years ago.

The movie, which completed its shooting in 105 days, was filmed in Kerala, Ahmedabad, Mysore, Mumbai and Dubai. Kurup was earlier rumoured to be an OTT release, but Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala president K Vijayakumar had told OTTplay that the theatres owners had requested Dulquer and Mammootty to ensure that the movie was released in theatres.

As part of the deal, the film has been guaranteed a minimum of 14-day run in all the theatres it is releasing with four shows daily. The producers will be transferred the revenue immediately after the film’s showing, unlike in the past when there were other formalities involved. With Kurup releasing in at least 400 out of the 710 screens in Kerala, the producers are expected to make good revenue in the first two weeks, and also generate revenue from its outside Kerala market, foreign, digital and satellite rights, thus prompting other big movies to also take to theatres soon.
