The hype for Dulquer Salmaan’s upcoming movie King of Kotha has already sky high, and the latest reports of a cameo from a star kid from the Tamil film industry could very well take it up a notch, if even that’s possible.
Amid all the buzz of it being Dulquer’s most expensive movie, Malayalam film industry’s first-ever pan-Indian blockbuster and even the expectations of all the box-office records that movie could break if it connects with the audience, there’s also a bit of cinematic legacy involved in the film – especially connecting it with people who have helped define big blockbusters for the Malayali audience.
Sons of Mammootty, Suresh Gopi and Joshiy unite for King of Kotha
When King of Kotha was first announced in Dulquer’s birthday two years ago, the audience cheered for the film as it marked the collaboration of Mammootty’s son as well as Joshiy’s son Abhilash. The duo have been childhood friends, but to the Malayalam audience, their fathers have worked in some of the most iconic films including New Delhi, Dhruvam and Kauravar.

Abhilash then also added Suresh Gopi’s son Gokul Suresh to the cast. Some of Joshiy’s best action entertainers in the 90s such as Pathram, Lelam and Vazhunoor have been with the veteran superstar-politician. And to top it off, he cast Gokul in the role of a police officer – a role that is synonymous with Suresh Gopi’s career.
Dhruv Vikram to play a cameo in King of Kotha?
While there was buzz earlier that a leading actor would be doing a cameo in the film, it’s now rumoured that it could very well be Dhruv Vikram. If it’s indeed true, this could also be a tribute to Joshiy’s Dhruvam.
The 1993 release, which had Mammootty in the iconic role of Narasimha Mannadiar, also had Suresh Gopi and Vikram as part of the Joshiy directorial. While the storyline of King of Kotha doesn’t hint at any particular connection to that of Dhruvam except for its 90s setting, the movie could well be a spiritual successor of the film, given that Abhilash Joshiy is at the helm, Dulquer plays the lead and Gokul is attached to the movie as a police officer along with a rumoured cameo from Dhruv Vikram.
King of Kotha is all set to hit theatres worldwide on August 24.
