Actor Dulquer Salmaan has signed a new Telugu film with director Venky Atlu. The movie will be bankrolled by Sithara Entertainments, which had also bankrolled Venky's previous movie Vaathi/Sir. It's said the movie will be released in multiple languages across the country.
Dulquer is gradually but steadily expanding his footprints in the Telugu film industry. Last year, he scored a big hit with Sita Ramam , a mid-budget period movie that traced a charming but tragic love story between a solider and a girl from a royal family.
It will be Dulquer's third straight Telugu movie after Mahanati and Sita Ramam. The filmmakers have not yet revealed the details of the movie, including its genre and the other cast and crew.
The upcoming movie also marks Venky's second such collaboration with a star from a different South Indian language. In Vaathi, he directed Tamil star Dhanush .
Upon its release, Vaathi was not expected to perform well at the box office due to its gentle tone that highlighted the struggles of a school teacher fighting corruption that resulted in the commercialization of education, causing it to be out of reach for the underprivileged. During a time when the industry was dominated by high-octane stunts and action-packed spectacles, Vaathi was perceived as a deviation that the audience may not embrace.
On February 17, Vaathi hit the theaters and received a warm welcome from the audience. It was not surprising to see a Dhanush movie drawing crowds in Tamil Nadu. However, the Telugu audience's response to Sir was a shocker. It turned out to be a box-office success.
Vaathi's box office collection surpassed all expectations, crossing Rs 100 crore in global ticket sales within two weeks of its release.
The movie also had Samyuktha, Samuthirakani, P Sai Kumar, and Tanikella Bharani in supporting roles. It's now streaming on Netflix.
