There’s always an interest to see father-son combinations on screen. In Malayalam, there has been many including Mohanlal and Pranav, who had shared in movies such as Sagar Alias Jacky and Aadhi, as well as Jayaram-Kalidas, Sreenivasan-Vineeth and Suresh Gopi-Gokul, who have worked together for Joshiy’s Paappan. But probably none could match that expectation that a Mammootty and Dulquer collaboration would bring.

In a recent interview, Dulquer talked about why he hasn’t shared screen space with his father and megastar Mammootty yet. “I also wish to work with him, but he too should think about that. For the time being there’s a clear reason behind not doing films together,” said Dulquer in an interview with Manorama Online, adding that if both actors do different films, it would help create their identities in their respective careers.

Dulquer, however, didn’t brush off the idea of ever doing a movie with Mammootty. He said that at least once he wants to share screen space with his father.

Meanwhile, the young star made his OTT debut with Rosshan Andrrews’ Salute, which dropped directly on Sony LIV on March 17. The investigative drama has Dulquer playing the role of a cop named Aravind Karunakaran, who is conflicted by the questionable actions he and the police team do at the behest of his elder brother and superior officer to implicate a suspect. Years later, he decides to take another crack at the case in the film, written by Bobby and Sanjay.

Mammootty too is set to make his OTT debut with Puzhu, which is also co-produced by Dulquer. The intense family thriller, also starring Parvathy Thiruvothu and directed by Ratheena PT, revolves around a father-son duo and the underlying trust issues. The movie is expected to stream on Sony LIV next month.
