Even as the ambiguity surrounding the OTT release of Venkatesh's Narappa (the Telugu remake of Asuran) refuses to die down, the actor's next film Drushyam 2, directed by Jeethu Joseph is gearing up for a direct-to-digital premiere on Disney+ Hotstar. We hear Drushyam 2, also a remake, (of the Malayalam sequel to the gripping family thriller Drishyam starring Mohanlal, Meena) may release in the later weeks of August on the OTT platform.
Meena and Esther Anil reprise their roles from the Malayalam version, while the film's famed lineup also includes Kruthika Jayakumar, Nadhiya, theatre actor Vinay Varma, Sampath Raj and veteran actor Naresh to name a few. The film completed shoot in nearly 45 days and was initially announced as a theatrical release, but the second wave of COVID-19 forced the makers, Suresh Productions, to change their release plans.
Drushyam, the Telugu remake of the first part (of Drishyam) also featured a largely similar lineup except for a few names and was written by Paruchuri Brothers and directed by (actress) Sri Priya. Though the Telugu version had an okayish run in theatres, the Tamil and Hindi remakes went onto be major successes. While the news of the Hindi remake of Drishyam 2 with Ajay Devgn has been doing the rounds, the director and the crew are yet to be finalised.
