Drishyam to Neru: Ranking Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph's Malayalam thrillers

The audience eagerly await Jeethu Joseph and Mohanlal's films because of their knack for delivering compelling storylines. Jeethu Joseph, who has shown the Malayali audience that he is capable of crafting strong thrillers like Drishyam and Memories, has been able to give Mohanlal a few films that have been huge hits since 2013.

Drishyam (2013)

Drishyam chronicles the life of Georgekutty and his family, who face suspicion following the disappearance of IG Geetha Prabhakar's son, Varun Prabhakar. Varun was killed by Georgekutty’s elder daughter accidentally in self-defense. Film enthusiasts and critics from all over the country lauded Drishyam's screenplay, direction, and performances, particularly the film's astounding conclusion. The film, which had remakes in several languages including Indonesian, is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

Drishyam 2 (2021)

After the success of the prequel, there was a lot of excitement surrounding Drishyam 2, as movie enthusiasts and fans of Mohanlal conjectured about some of the developments in Georgekutty's and his family's lives well in advance of the film's release. The main focus of the film is the protagonist's never-ending battle to defend his family from the authorities' constant surveillance. The audience was also impressed by the sequel's convincing and skillfully written story and the cast members' strong performances. Drishyam 2 is available on Amazon Prime.

Neru (2023)

With its captivating story, Jeethu Joseph and Mohanlal's latest hit did not disappoint in exceeding people's expectations. The actor made a spectacular comeback with this film after a string of recent box-office disappointments. As Advocate Vijayamohan, a lawyer who initially lacks confidence due to a few circumstances but eventually regains it in the courtroom, Mohanlal delivered a strong performance. Even though the courtroom drama, which explores the complexities of our legal system, lacked a thrilling conclusion or detective work, it managed to hold viewers' attention. The movie will be streaming on Disney+ Hotstar starting January 23.  

12th Man (2022)

The movie focuses on 11 individuals who have gathered at a remote resort for their friend Siddharth's bachelor party. One of them mysteriously dies on the adjacent view point, prompting DySP Chandrashekhar—a fellow resort guest—to start questioning all of them about their alibis and possible motives for solving the crime. The Jeethu Joseph movie stays true to the director's skill at holding the attention of the audience. Although the performances may not be particularly outstanding, the thriller is still worth seeing once due to its gripping narrative. 12th Man is available on Disney+ Hotstar.
