Mohanlal’s most popular film, known across the country, would probably be Drishyam 2, the sequel to the 2013 Drishyam. The Jeethu Joseph directorial was released directly on Amazon Prime Video in 2021 and is a widely appreciated film. Drishyam 3 is confirmed, and Jeethu Joseph has already begun working on the script. But in an exciting update, online portals claim that Drishyam 3 could be a bilingual project, releasing in Malayalam and Hindi. This has come as a surprise, and could prove damning to Ajay Devgn who has starred in the Hindi remakes of both Drishyam 1 and 2.
Drishyam 3 is definitely one of the most anticipated projects from Malayalam, considering the huge popularity of the first two installments. The 2013 Malayalam film, which narrates the tale of Georgekutty as he goes all out to protect his family from the law, was remade in Hindi with Ajay Devgn in 2015. Ajay Devgn also returned for the sequel in 2022.

With Drishyam 3 confirmed, Hindi fans would be hoping to see the Singham star back in action. But reports suggest that Drishyam director Jeethu Joseph, lead actor Mohanlal and producer Antony Perumbavoor are mulling a pan-India release for Drishyam 3. The film could be bilingual, releasing in both Malayalam and Hindi, as reported by Mid-Day. However, the makers have not officially confirmed this. The earlier two Drishyam movies were released in Malayalam and were remade in several languages, including in Hindi as Drishyam and in Telugu as Drushyam.
This update doesn’t bode well for Ajay Devgn since a Drishyam 3 in Hindi could hamper their remake plans. The biggest strength of Drishyam movies has been the plot, with their mind-bending climaxes. Considering that the remakes release almost a year after the original film is out, the Hindi-speaking audiences now have a chance to watch the film in their language.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal battled a slew of criticisms after his latest movie, Empuraan, earned the ire of right-wing supporters. The film, the sequel to Lucifer, was released in theatres on March 27, 2025.
His next film is Tharun Moorthy’s Thudarum, which also stars Shobana and is set to release on April 25, 2025. Fans are really looking forward to this movie as the trailer hinted at a Drishyam-like film.
