Following a successful domestic release in Japan, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, is now preparing for an Indian release, including major metropolitan areas. The production studio, Toei Animation, announced that the film will be released in India on August 26. Among the Indian anime fandom, the Dragon Ball anime series has one of the most devoted fan bases. It was one of the first anime franchises in India to popularise Japanese animation media.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero will be dubbed in Hindi and released by Sony Pictures Entertainment across 500 screens in the country.

The film’s official synopsis states, “The Red Ribbon Army was once destroyed by Son Goku. Individuals, who carry on its spirit, have created the ultimate Androids, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. These two Androids call themselves “Super Heroes”. They start attacking Piccolo and Gohan… What is the New Red Ribbon Army’s objective?”

The film is directed by Tetsuro Kodama and the Japanese voice actors for the film include Masao Nozawa (Son Goku, Son Gohan, and Son Goten), Toshio Furukawa (Piccolo), Aya Hisakawa (Bulma), Ryo Horikawa (Vegeta), Mayumi Tanaka (Krillin), Takeshi Kusao (Trunks), Yuko Minaguchi (Videl), Yuko Minaguchi (Pan), Miyu Irino (Dr Hedo), Hiroshi Kamiya (Gamma 1), Mamoru Miyano(Gamma 2), Volcano Ota (Magenta), and Ryota Takeuchi (Carmine).

The 21st feature film in the Dragon Ball series has received a lot of attention because it was written by the series' original creator, Akira Toriyama. Dragon Ball Super: Superhero is the fourth film in the series in which Akirama Toriyama has direct involvement. The film premiered in Japan on July 11 to positive reviews. It dominated the box office for a week before being dethroned by Top Gun: Maverick.

Dragon Ball began as a Manga (Japanese comics) before being adapted into a television series in 1986. The non-Japanese audience was completely unfamiliar with the groundbreaking visuals, memorable characters, and unique storytelling. It quickly became a worldwide phenomenon. The series' popularity peaked in the 1990s, and it became the entry point for many anime fans in India. Even though it will only have a limited run, a theatrical run for an anime film is unusual in India, and fans are eager to see their favourite anime on the big screen.
