Puri Jagannadh has finally announced another film after the debacle of Liger last year. He’s joining hands with Ram Pothineni again for the sequel to their hit action entertainer iSmart Shankar. Puri will also produce it jointly alongside Charmme Kaur under their home banner Puri Connects. While the news about this collaboration was out yesterday, there’s another update for fans today.
On the eve of Ram Pothineni’s birthday, the makers have confirmed the release date of the iSmart Shankar sequel titled Double iSmart. The film will land in theatres for Maha Shivaratri next year i.e. March 8, 2024, nearly five years after the first part opened to terrific collections worldwide (July 18, 2019). Vishu Reddy, who also essayed a crucial role in Liger, is the CEO for the same.
The team promises to be twice as massy and entertaining as iSmart Shankar. Puri Jagannadh is believed to have written a story that will be made on a grand canvas and a huge budget without compromising on its technical standards. The title poster of Double iSmart showcases Trishools with a few blood stains. This poster does well to throw a hint about the backdrop of Double iSmart.
Double iSmart’s release plans have been finalised already. The film will be out in five languages - Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi languages - on the same day. It’s not known if the female leads of iSmart Shankar - Nidhhi Agerwal and Nabha Natesh - will feature in the sequel. The team assures that other details surrounding the cast and crew will be out soon.
Meanwhile, distributors of Liger are on a hunger strike, demanding Puri to compensate them for the losses of the sports drama. However, neither Vijay Deverakonda nor the director have responded to them. The Liger actor-director was to reunite for the war-drama Jana Gana Mana as well, which was however shelved despite the commencement of shoot.
