Rajveer Deol made his debut alongside Paloma in Avnish S. Barjatya's 'Dono', which was released in theatres on 3rd October 2023. Following the theatrical run, the romance drama is all set to make its OTT debut - the makers recently announced that 'Dono' will be streaming on Zee5 on December 29, 2023.

Avnish Barjatya, who has co-written and directed the film, is the son of famed Hindi filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya, who has made landmark films like 'Maine Pyar Kiya', 'Hum Aapke Hai Kaun' and 'Vivah'. Avnish makes his debut as a filmmaker with 'Dono, which comes as a joint production of Rajshri Productions and Jio Studios.

Rajveel Deol, of course, is the son of 'Gadar 2' actor Sunny Deol and the grandson of the legendary Dharmendra, and also the nephew of 'Animal' actor Bobby Deol. Paloma, on the other hand, is popular 1980s and '90s actress Poonam Dhillon's daughter.

What is 'Dono' about?

Avnish Barjatya's film, in essence, follows strangers Dev (Rajveer) and Meghna (Paloma), who meet one another at a destination wedding in Thailand. The two, carrying respective emotional baggage, are drawn to one another amid the chaos of the lavish wedding and begin to find solace in one another's company - 'Dono' is an exploration of this sweet yet tender tale of serendipity, finding love and so many other aspects.

The cast of the film also includes many fresh faces like Aditya Nanda, Kanikka Kapur, Rohan Khurana, Manik Papneja and others, with seasoned actors such as Tisca Chopra and Mohit Chauhan, too, playing important roles. The trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy scored the music with Chirantan Das handling the cinematography and Shweta Venkat Mathew credited as the editor.

What did critics and audiences say about 'Dono'?

Avnish Barjatya's modern take on relationships and the overall "breezy" nature of the narrative received praise, with Rajveer Deol and Paloma's performances, too, striking a chord with the film's viewers. Many critics also noted that though 'Dono' is set against the familiar backdrop of Indian weddings, familial commitments and so on, the debutant director impresses with his subversive view on love and romance.

That said, the film was also pulled up for its lacklustre screenplay and how the promising setup never really takes off. The 156-minute runtime of the film, too, became a factor to consider and all put together, 'Dono' was not able to yield the desired results at the box office.
