Don, the second release of Sivakarthikeyan during the pandemic era, released on May 13. Directed by debutant Cibi Chakaravarthi, the campus drama opened to positive reviews from critics and the audience. As expected, the film distributed by Udhayanidhi's Red Giant Movies in Tamil Nadu, has taken a good opening.
According to a few sources, the film has collected 92 lakh from Chennai and around 8 crores from across Tamil Nadu. The movie is considered to be the second biggest opener for Siva after Seemaraja which released in 2018. Doctor, which released a few months ago, is the star's highest grossing movie now.
The trade is looking forward to seeing if Don can surpass Doctor in the long run. Doctor managed to achieve the feat with 50 percent occupancy. With no other big Tamil film releasing till June 3, there are chances of Don outdoing the numbers of Doctor if the movie manages to sustain the good word of mouth in the weekdays.
The performances of Siva, Samuthirakani and SJ Suryah, apart from music by Anirudh and a few emotional scenes are unanimously raved by movie lovers. The film features a bevy of actors like Priyanka Mohan, Balasaravanan, Sivaangi, Soori, Mirchi Vijay and Kaali Venkat among others.
Don garners the third biggest opening day collection for a Tamil movie this year after Ajith's Valimai and Vijay's Beast. All eyes are now on Kamal Haasan's Vikram which is set for a huge release on June 3.
Anudeep's SK 20 (tentative title) is likely to be Siva's next release, after which the ambitious sci-fi flick Ayalaan will hit the screens. The star has also signed Rajkumar Periasamy's untitled movie under Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International. The project is expected to go on floors after a few months.
