It looks like Vijay Antony's Pichaikkaran franchise and the Narendra Modi-led Union government have a connection, at least going by a bunch of avid social media users.
The Reserve Bank of India announced yesterday that it will withdraw the ₹2,000 denomination banknotes from circulation but they will continue to remain as legal tender. Interestingly, the announcement came on the same day as Vijay Antony's Pichaikkaran 2 release. The film has been lying in the cans for a while now and finally hit screens yesterday.
Interestingly, it was after the release of the first film from the Pichaikkaran series that the Union government announced that Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 won't continue as legal tender.
What's intriguing was the film also had a scene pertaining to demonetisation, which was long before the government made its announcement. In the scene, there is a discussion about curbing the circulation of black money when a beggar says that the best way to arrest the problem was to ban Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes!
The latest move has now sparked a meme fest on Twitter where some have gone on to state that Vijay Antony is running the Indian economy!
