While situational humour and slapstick comedy come naturally to most mainstream filmmakers in Telugu cinema, director Siva Nageswara Rao deserves credit for introducing dark humour to Telugu audiences. Money, Sisindri, Pattukondi Chuddam, Mr and Mrs Sailaja Krishnamurthy are fine examples to showcase his flair for comedy and now, the filmmaker, is on a comeback trail.
Siva Nageswara Rao’s latest film is Dochevaarevarura, featuring Ajay Ghosh, Bithiri Sathi, Malavika Satheesan and Pranava Chandra in key roles. While the teaser, launched by SS Rajamouli, and the songs have helped the film stay in the news recently, the film’s trailer was unveiled by Ustaad Bhagat Singh director Harish Shankar on Saturday.
The trailer gives exactly what one would expect from a Siva Nageswara Rao directorial with his brand of humour. It starts with a middle aged man asking a contract killer if he could murder his wife for money. The focus later shifts to a youngster and a child, who take up petty robberies for a living. The 20s something man has a love interest too.
What connects the duo to the murder and why’s there a confusion? Each of the characters needs to confront many conflicts. The evil middle-aged man has an innocent twin who’s involved in a mess. A young woman is blackmailed by another man, threatening to leak her private pictures in porn sites. A child’s life is in danger and a 500 rupee note is cited as a reason behind this chaos.
With music by Rohith Vardhan, Dochevaarevarura is produced by Boddu Koteswara Rao. Pranava Chandra, the film’s lead is the son of lyricist Chaitanya Prasad. Ajay Ghosh essays a double role in the comedy. Siva Nageswara Rao’s last release was Over Action in 2016.
