Disney+ Hotstar has been a constant source of entertainment and quality content in India. The streaming platform has exclusive Disney content in addition to other popular titles. Now, Disney+ Hotstar is preparing to venture into creating a user base in Malaysia by launching in the country on June 1. Malaysia is the third Southeast Asian country to have access to the streamer, after Singapore and Indonesia.
The streaming service is all set to host Marvel's gems, Pixar's heartwarming tales, and even local movies and series due to its partnerships and agreements with pay-per-view TV platform Astro Malaysia and other top Malaysian studios.
Disney+ Hotstar had made their plans for launching in Malaysia known to the world in the first week of May. Subscribers can sign up for the streamer from June 1 onwards. Malaysian users can expect the catalogue of Disney+ Hotstar to feature over 800 films and 18,000 episodes of series.
The streamer will include five content brands- Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic. Many Malaysian films are scheduled to skip theatrical releases and premiere on the streamer, owing to its multi-year content agreements. A confirmation has also been made regarding the availability of Hindi, Tamil and Chinese content.
Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia will not allow Premier Access - Malaysia users will have to wait for content to start streaming on the platform after Premier Access exclusivity periods are over.
Subscribers of the steamer can access content at RM 54.90 for a three month package. This will automatically be renewed towards the end of the subscription period unless it is manually cancelled by the subscriber. Astro TV subscribers can directly add the package on their existing pack at just RM 5 per month. Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia will allow 2 concurrent streaming screens and has a feature to allow watching with friends called GroupWatch.
