Tiger Nageswara Rao, the Ravi Teja starrer is a biopic of the notorious thief based out of Stuartpuram, Andhra Pradesh. (the film’s named after him) Nupur Sanon, Gayatri Bhardwaj make their Telugu debut with the actioner written and directed by Vamsee. The film is produced by Abhishek Agarwal of Abhishek Agarwal Arts, the banner behind hits like Karthikeya 2, The Kashmir Files.
The film’s trailer launch was held in the presence of the cast, crew in Mumbai on Tuesday. While responding to a question on why he chose to mention that the film is ‘inspired by true rumours’, director Vamsee said, “I was hoping to be asked this question and this was very intentional. The film is a biopic that tells the story of a celebrated thief in Andhra Pradesh.”
“Whenever you see biopics, you notice that people make films on cricketers, politicians, film stars and there’s information aplenty about them in the public domain. Tiger Nageswara Rao was a good man, who turned a robber because he was a victim of circumstances. Sadly, his life was not well documented and omitted from history. I had 600 police cases as a reference,” he added.
Another roadblock that Vamsee faced was the absence of first-hand information and how most people who knew him were no longer alive. He reportedly didn’t have any foolproof documents, direct sources to tell his story, a reason why he chose to mention that it was ‘inspired by true rumours’ in all the promos. “I believed in them, it’s your choice to trust them or not.”
Anupam Kher, Renu Desai, Nassar, Jisshu Sengupta essay other important roles in the film whose dialogues are written by Srikanth Vissa. GV Prakash Kumar scores the music. R Madhie is the cinematographer. Tiger Nageswara Rao releases in theatres on October 20 in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam (and sign language).
