Director Hemant Awtade speaks about his film Ghar Banduk Biryani that’s being streamed on this OTT platform

The highly acclaimed Marathi film ‘Ghar Banduk Biryani’, is presently being streamed on Zee 5. Produced by Zee Studios and the National Award-winning director Nagraj Manjule, the film ‘Ghar Banduk Biryani’ has been directed by debutant filmmaker Hemant Awtade. The film stars Nagraj Manjule, Sayaji Shinde, Akash Thosar and Sayli Patil.

Speaking exclusively to OTTplay, the film’s director Hemant Awtade spoke about the film. When asked about what made him come up with the concept for ‘Ghar Banduk Biryani’, he said, “While I was studying in a university, my professor had narrated to me a story from Ulka series in Assam where a criminal was made to surrender. Police weren’t letting him surrender without weapons. That’s where the seed of ‘Ghar Banduk Biryani’ germinated”.

With a film that’s almost laced with action, we did ask Hemant Awtade about what was the atmosphere like on sets? To which, he replied, “The atmosphere was fun. We were shooting in a jungle. The genre is dark humour and we had a great time shooting it”. Since the film ‘Ghar Banduk Biryani’ revolves around multiple themes like politics, struggles, love, ambitions and a myriad of other emotions, it definitely must have been difficult is it to tackle multiple themes for the director Hemant Awtade.

Answering to this, he said, “It was difficult to tackle so many emotions and themes in the film but Nagraj sir helped me. Fortunately, he is the producer and creative director of the film. ‘Ghar Banduk Biryani’ being my directorial debut, he reduced my burden and provided his generous support”.
