Director Buchi Babu Sana thrilled with Uppena’s National Award, credits guru Sukumar and team for the win

For the makers of Uppena, the film continues to be a well that keeps giving. Prior to its release, the team behind the romance saga starring Panja Vaisshnav Tej, Krithi Shetty, Vijay Sethupathi, received criticism for spending over Rs 20 crore for a film featuring newcomers. However, it turned out be a monstrous hit at the box office before the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in February 2021.

From the performances to the treatment of a sensitive plot to the making and the stellar music score by Devi Sri Prasad, Uppena received rave reviews and earned a sum nearly three times its investment in the theatrical run. The joy was doubled for the team when Uppena was adjudged the Best Film in Telugu as part of the 69th National Awards, announced earlier this year.

The director of the film Buchi Babu Sana and producers Y Ravi Shankar and Naveen Yerneni (of Mythri Movie Makers) are now in to Delhi to receive the National Award. Ahead of the presentation ceremony, the filmmaker (while speaking in Telugu) said, “I am very happy about the National Award win, it’s all because of my producers, guru Sukumar. I’m very thankful to Vaisshnav Tej, Krithi Shetty, Vijay Sethupathi, cinematographer Shamdat and my team.”

Gayathri Jayaraman, Sai Chand, Praneeta Patnaik are also part of Uppena. The film is now streaming on Netflix. Besides Uppena, the producers of the film are equally thrilled about the two National Awards for their other production Pushpa - in the Best Actor (Male) and Best Music Director categories, bestowed upon Allu Arjun and Devi Sri Prasad.

After Uppena, director Buchi Babu Sana will be directing Game Changer star Ram Charan for a sports drama, also to be produced by Mythri Movie Makers. The film will have music by AR Rahman and is expected to go on floors shortly.
