Malayalam actor Dileep’s Voice of Sathyanathan will reportedly also have its OTT release on Disney+ Hotstar, much like his streaming debut Kesu Ee Veedinte Nadhan. The film, which is helmed by Raffi, marks Dileep’s first theatrical release since the pandemic and is touted to appeal to his fan base of family audiences, which have been dwindling over the years.
The makers as well as its digital and satellite partners will be hoping that the upcoming movie will appeal to the section of audience. Its director Raffi as well as the actor, in the film’s recent promotions, promised that the movie has elements that make for an entertainer but is different from their previous collaborations. The film, which was supposed to release in theatres on July 14, has been pushed to July 28 due to unfavourable weather conditions in Kerala, owing to the heavy rains that is predicted for the next few days.
Though the makers are yet to officially announce its streaming partner or date, a July 28 theatrical release would mean that it could drop on the platform on Onam in the last week of August or in September, The latter will hold true, if the makers and the digital partners decide to abide by the norms set by the Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala that Dileep had founded six years ago.
Dileep plays a furniture-shop owner in the movie, which also has Joju George, Veena Nandakumar, Anupam Kher and Jagapathi Babu in pivotal roles. Though the film tells the tale of a common man, whose voice is often ignored, Voice of Sathyanathan has been shot in Kerala as well as locations in Mumbai and New Delhi.
In a recent press meet, Dileep had also opened up about what he thought was the impact of OTTs in films, considering that he has traditionally been a huge backer of theatrical releases – in his capacity as a distributor, actor, producer and a film exhibitor.
The actor seems to have had a change of heart, saying that the scale of Malayalam movies have been increasing over the years with the production budgets soaring and the technical aspects on par with international standards. “In such a scenario, avenues like OTTs cannot be ignored as they can help create a global market for our movies,” said the actor, who is also part of Arun Gopy’s big-budget action-entertainer Bandra, co-starring Tamannaah Bhatia, Sarathkumar and Dino Morea.
Meanwhile, Dileep has also announced the sequel of his blockbuster comedy CID Moosa next year along with the second instalment of Two Countries, which will be scripted by Raffi and directed by Shafi.
