We had told you Harish Kalyan's next, Diesel, would be directed by Adangathey-fame Shanmugam Muthusamy. The first look of the film was released a few days ago, coinciding with the Pyaar Prema Kadhal actor's birthday.

Speaking about Diesel, Shanmugam says, “The film will talk about several stories including the politics behind what decides the pricing of such an essential commodity.”

Diesel, which also features Sai Krishna and Karunaas, is currently being shot in Pondicherry. The film was earlier shot in places like Chennai and Hyderabad and will have its final schedule shot in foreign locales. With music by Kanaa-fame Dhibu Ninan Thomas, veteran cinematographer MS Prabhu, known for films like Vaali and Ramana, is cranking the camera for Diesel.

Touted to be a commercial action outing, Diesel also stars Vinay as the antagonist and Ananya (Nadodigal fame), who will be making her comeback to Tamil cinema, is playing his partner.

“Diesel is a subject, which hasn’t been explored before this and came to me at a time where I was looking to do something different,” says Harish Kalyan.

Further, he adds, “Diesel, though, is set in the backdrop of North Chennai and deals with mafias and scams that we haven’t heard of before. This is the biggest film of my career in terms of budget, content and star cast. I had to undergo a physical transformation for this one, too.”

In an interview with the Hindu, Harish Kalyan spoke about his thirst for experimenting with films. He said he was at a stage where the audience won’t accept him in a mass movie, thrashing some 20 men. "If I have to go back to the 2000s, Vijay sir did a host of romantic movies, displaying multiple shades. But then, he became a huge star. At this point in my career, I have got the luxury to experiment!"
