Exploring the lives of legends through documentaries is always very interesting because you are not just watching a person in their professional environment; the camera often also enters their personal space. Even if sanitised, you get to see what their life is like, how they deal with their vices, and why they made decisions that have always made you curious.
One such documentary that has impressed fans across the world is the 2019 documentary by Asif Kapadia titled Diego Maradona, based on the life of the celebrated football player who experienced fame, power, tragedy, and everything that came with it. The documentary movie is now about to have a second round of streaming, and below is everything you should know about it.
Lionsgate Play has been consistent in bringing us some of the best content from across the world. The platform has not limited itself to fresh releases and even celebrates re-releases. The latest ones they are celebrating are The Iron Claw, Replicas, Mona Lisa, and The Blood Moon, and now they have a new reason to celebrate as Diego Maradona has joined the list and will soon be available on the platform.
Diego Maradona has been listed under the "coming soon" section on Lionsgate Play alongside Nicolas Cage's Arcadian, Brie Larson’s Room, Adam Driver’s Logan Lucky, and Mandy Moore’s Dr. Death. Diego Maradona is the only documentary film on the list. However, there is no release date attached to the film yet. It is likely to be released in July if the pattern of releases is observed.
As per the Indian Express, while talking about the movie, Diego Maradona director Asif Kapadia said, “When I was growing up, Maradona was the best player in the world. There was no doubt about it. I’m interested in him as a character, though. That’s the thing. There have been lots of great players. He was the best.”
“In the mid-’90s, when I was a student, I read a book about him. That was like the germ of the idea, thinking that this guy’s life is crazy, amazing, and epic. At the time, I was still making short films. But I remember thinking, 'It will be great if one day I could make a film on Maradona'. It took 25 years, but there you go,” he added.
Diego Maradona will soon stream on Lionsgate Play, and you can watch it with your OTTplay Premium subscription.
