Reema Kagti’s Superboys Of Malegaon has been receiving positive reviews from fans and critics. The film stars Adarsh Gourav, Shashank Arora, and Saqib Ayub in pivotal roles. The film is based on the real-life story of Nasir Shaikh, a wedding videographer with a passion for cinema, who lives in the textile town of Malegaon. Amid rave reviews, Saqib revealed that he had to reject Vicky Kaushal's blockbuster, Sam Bahadur.

Here's why Saqib Ayub rejected Sam Bahadur

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Saqib Ayub revealed that when he bagged the role in Superboys Of Malegaon, he was simultaneously also cast in Sam Bahadur. He was shooting for a show for Applause Entertainment along with Ileana D’Cruz, Vihaan Samat, Divya Dutta in Goa when he got a call for Sam Bahadur.

“Later, the same casting directors called me for Superboys Of Malegaon too. I was asked to test for Akram’s character. Then they asked me to test for Farogh. Then finally, I tested for Irfan and I got locked for it.”

About Superboys of Malegaon

Superboys of Malegaon is a coming-of-age film inspired by the 2008 documentary Supermen of Malegaon. It follows Nasir, a cinema-obsessed wedding videographer, and his friends as they create their own films in the small town of Malegaon, inspired by Bollywood classics.

Saqib Ayub on Superboys of Malegaon

The actor said that he was aware of the town called Malegaon as he is a Muslim and he lives in Andheri in a very Muslim populated locality. But he didn’t know what all happened there. "However, I knew that people from there are quite characters. I have interacted with them. But I didn’t know that there is a full-fledged film industry," he shared. 

Meanwhile, produced by Zoya Akhtar and Excel Entertainment and directed by the visionary Reema Kagti, the film stars Adarsh Gourav, Vineet Kumar Singh, Saqib Ayub, Shashank Arora and Anuj Singh Duhan. It was released on the big screen on February 28, 2025, and will land on Amazon Prime Video once it ends its theatrical run.
