Fatima Sana Shaikh made her big Bollywood debut with Aamir Khan's Dangal. Helmed by Nitesh Tiwari, it went on to become the highest-grossing Indian film of all time. She teamed up with Aamir again for YRF's Thugs of Hindostan co-starring Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif. Despite having a talented star cast, the film flopped at the box office. It ended up collecting Rs 151.30 crore (Hindi) at the domestic box office. Recently, in an interview, the actress spoke about its failure and how it affected her career.
Fatima, who started her career as a child artiste, revealed that she was removed from two movies after Thugs of Hindostan, helmed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, flopped. While speaking to Bollywood Bubble, she recalled the dull period. However, she also admitted that she didn't take it personally as she saw it as a part of business. Fatima said, "As a director, if one of their films flops, it becomes difficult for them to make their next movie. The same is true for actors — you will be removed from a few films. That happened to me too. After Thugs of Hindostan flopped, I was removed from two movies. However, I don’t take these things personally and see them as part of the business. So, I understand why a producer would do that (replace an actor whose recent work didn’t perform well)."
Further, on being asked if Aamir Khan taking responsibility for the failure of Thugs of Hindostan made a difference, she said that it didn't matter as it was a collective responsibility. She added, "When a movie becomes a hit, even those who played the smallest role receive respect. And when the movie flops, it’s a setback for everyone. For some, it might not matter because they already have a massive line-up. But for me, that wasn’t the case. I had nothing lined up, except Ludo."
Fatima has been a part of films like Ludo, Ajeeb Daastaans, Thar, Sam Bahadur, and Dhak Dhak. Next, she has Anurag Basu's multi-starrer Metro... In Dino alongside Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sensharma, and Neena Gupta. It is expected to hit theatres in 2025.
