It’s no secret that Dhyan Sreenivasan has been on a signing spree. In fact, in the past two weeks itself, three of his movies have been announced. But the film that he will immediately begin shooting is director Anil Lal’s Cheena Trophy.

The team held the movie’s pooja function in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday and the movie will go on floors on July 1. Touted to be a satire, the film debutante Devika Ramesh as the female lead. Johny Antony will play the role of a communist party member while Jaffer Idukki will be seen as an autorickshaw driver in the movie that has Dhyan essaying the role of a common youth.

It’s a marked change from the role that the actor will be playing in Jailer, which was also announced this week. The film, directed by Sakkirmadathil, is a period thriller based on true events. Set in 1956, the movie will have Dhyan in the titular role of a jailer who experiments a new method using five prisoners by staying with them in a bungalow. Divya Pillai has also been cast in the movie, which is set to go on floors later this year.

Last week, another film starring Dhyan and Aju Varghese was announced titled Nadikalil Sundari Yamuna. The news of the movie, which will be directed by debutants Vijesh Panathur and Unni Vellora, was shared by Mohanlal through his social media page.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Dhyan revealed the reason he has been signing projects left, right and centre since the pandemic. “I had been busy with the directorial duties of Love Action Drama and that took me two years. After that the pandemic lockdown was announced and suddenly I found myself with no projects at all. I became financially insecure because it was a time when projects weren’t happening in Malayalam and decided to sign the good films that came my way,” he said.
