Udal is one of the recent Malayalam thrillers that got a good response at the theatres. The film - starring Indrans, Dhyan Sreenivasan and Durga Krishna - hit the cinemas in May 2022, and has still not been released on OTT. Now, Dhyan has revealed some details about the delay in Udal’s OTT release.

According to him, the makers of the movie are planning to remake the film in other languages, which is causing a delay in it being released on digital platforms.

Speaking during an interview with Behindwoods Media, Dhyan spoke in Malayalam, which roughly translates to, “I am not sure about the movie’s OTT release. The director and producer would know it better. But plans are afoot to release Udal in other languages, including Hindi. The director told me that they are going to defer the OTT release, because of this plan to remake. I believe that is the case. I am unaware of any other information.”

Earlier, there were speculations about Gokulam Movies - which bankrolled films like Udal, Pathonpatham Noottandu, Kayamkulam Kochunni and Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja - venturing into the Hindi and Telugu industries through the remake of Udal. Ratheesh Reghunandan, who helmed Udal in Malayalam, is touted to direct the Hindi version as well.

Udal is a situational edge-of-seat thriller with shades of the English film Don’t Breathe, which released in 2016. Udal follows Shiny, who decided to leave her job after marriage. During the pandemic, she confines herself to her husband’s home, taking care of his ailing mother. Shiny finds this routine suffocating and seeks solace in her college junior Kiran, which eventually leads to an affair. One night, Shiny and Kiran plan to do something for relaxation. But things don’t go  according to their plan, leading to a series of traumatic events.
