Dhruv Vikram will be playing the lead in Mari Selvaraj’s upcoming film, touted to be a sports biopic

As reported earlier, Dhruv Vikram will be starring in Maamannan-fame director Mari Selvaraj's next sports biopic. The film, which was supposed to go on floors in 2023, had gotten delayed due to Mari Selvaraj’s busy schedules for Maamannan.
Now, according to the latest reports, the film is set to go on floors from March 15, 2024. The team is planning to begin its shoot in Thoothukudi and other rural areas. Sources reveal that the shooting for the film has been scheduled for 70 to 80 days, with Ezhil Arasu brought onboard as the cinematographer. More details about the film will be unveiled soon by the team.
Directed by acclaimed director Mari Selvaraj, the upcoming film will have young actor Dhruv Vikram play the lead role. The film is set to be a sports biopic of former Tamil Nadu Kabaddi player Manathi Ganesan, who is a recipient of Arjuna Award. The film is bankrolled by Pa Ranjith, under his home banner Neelam Productions. Interestingly, Manathi Ganesan is a close relative of director Mari Selvaraj, and the director had earlier revealed that he wished to make a feature film about his life. “He is an Arjuna Awardee and a very close relative. I always wanted to portray his story,” the director revealed. Actor Dhruv has been preparing to get into the shoes of a Kabbadi player and has been training to play the game. The Adithya Varma actor will be seen in a more lean physique for the film.

Earlier, on Dhruv’s birthday, producer-director Pa Ranjith had dropped a special poster of the actor and Mari Selvaraj, announcing the film. He captioned the post as, “Happiest birthday wishes dear #DhruvVikram. Wishing you good health and success. May you achieve everything you've dreamt off So happy to be working with you.” Check out the poster of the actor-director duo, donning sports jerseys.

For the unversed, when Dhruv Vikram’s film with Mari Selvaraj was first scheduled to begin, actor-politician Udhayanidhi requested if he could do Mari Selvaraj's Maamannan first as he was planning to wrap up his acting commitments to focus on his political career. Mari Selvaraj had also revealed that the script for Dhruv's film was finalised and they were about to begin the shoot in a month's time, when Udhayanidhi made his request.
