It’s been a rumoured collaboration for a very long time, and now comes the confirmation. Mollywood star Fahadh Faasil is coming to Kannada cinema too. Fahadh is the lead in director-actor Pawan Kumar’s new directorial, Dhoomam, to be backed by Hombale Films, which will take off on October 9. Fahadh will be paired with Aparna Balamurali in the film. The film will also star Roshan Mathew in a pivotal role.

Pawan was earlier committed to do a film for Hombale Films with Puneeth Rajkumar, called Dvitva. The film, which was to bring Puneeth together with his Power co-star Trisha, was to be a pan-India film in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, for which the actor had suggested that Pawan should get Fahadh for at least two versions of the film. Puneeth was quite keen that Fahadh star in the Malayalam and Tamil versions and had told Pawan to shoot those portions first, after which he would try and match up to the Malayalam actor’s acting calibre. Puneeth was a fan of Fahadh.

Unfortunately, shortly before the team could go on floors with Dvitva, Puneeth passed away. And while there have been rumours that Pawan would look at reviving the project at some point as a tribute to the late Power Star, it turns out that the filmmaker is working on a different film after all.

The official announcement poster also tells us that Dhoomam will have Preetha Jayaraman as cinematographer and music by Poornachandra Tejaswi. “Kickstarting from Oct 9, 2022, End Game begins in Summer 2023,” read the post. Dhoomam will be Hombale Films’ second Malayalam film announcement after Tyson with Prithviraj Sukumaran. The production house, which has just brought the Kannada film Kantara to theatres today, also has Prashant Neel’s Salaar in the pipeline, as well as a Tamil project with director Sudha Kongara. Their next Kannada release will be Santhosh Ananddram’s Raghavendra Stores, which was pushed ahead from the initial August 5 plan.
