When Hombale Films announced the first look reveal of its production with director Pawan Kumar, featuring Fahadh Faasil and Aparna Balamurali in the lead, strangely enough, there was no mention of the film’s title. Pawan’s film, which is now a Malayalam movie called Dhoomam, is based on a script he has been toying with for years called C10H14N2 (which is the chemical formula of Nicotine). When Hombale Films didn’t use the title two days ago, the assumption was that the makers were probably all set to announce a new one – one that netizens reckoned would be more apt for a pan-India release.

Well, the first look of the film is here and it is still called Dhoomam. There is no smoke without fire, here is the first spark. Here is the first look,” wrote Pawan, along with the first look poster, which features Fahadh prominently, with tape across his mouth. A careful look at the poster would require it to be turned around slowly at 360 degrees, as each character image has been placed at an angle. Sharing the first look, Fahadh wrote, “Prepare for a smoke-filled journey into the heart of darkness, where the stakes are high and the secrets are deadly. This edge-of-your-seat suspense thriller will keep you guessing at every turn, till the last puff.”

Dhoomam, a suspenseful thriller, is set to release as a Malayalam original which will be simultaneously dubbed in Kannada, Telugu and Tamil. Dhoomam marks Hombale Films’ official entry into Mollywood, although earlier productions like KGF1 and 2 and Kantara were dubbed in Malayalam. The first Malayalam project that the banner had announced was Tyson, which is to be directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, but that is yet to take off, as the actor-filmmaker is currently busy with the pre-production of his next directorial, Empuraan.
