It seems like discussions have shifted from films and actors to production houses and studios in recent weeks. The biggest news this month is that Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions has sold a 50% stake to entrepreneur Adar Poonawalla, a twist no one saw coming. Actor Claims YRF and Dharma Pay Less
Vikram Kapadia, an actor who has worked with both Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films, has spoken out, revealing that these prestigious studios are not as easy to work with as they appear. He claims that both companies pay actors less, citing the opportunity to work with them as a reason for the reduced payment. According to Kapadia, there is an ego within these studios that makes them feel superior, which ultimately leads to lower compensation for actors. Read on to know more.
Vikram Kapadia, known for his roles in films like Yoddha, Kapoor & Sons, The Archies, and shows like Made In Heaven and The Night Manager, shared his experience with Bollywood Now. He said, “Yash Raj and Dharma have this ego, thinking, ‘We are Yash Raj and Dharma, so we will pay you a little less, but you should be happy because we are paying you.’ I think they do that with everyone, and that’s why actors are concerned.”
However, Kapadia did find one silver lining in the situation: both production houses are punctual with payments, even if the remuneration is on the lower side. “Yash Raj paid me well as a writer, but there is this notion that 'we are Yash Raj.' You are getting a role, and they are giving you a break. So maybe the pay is a little less, but they never delay payments,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dharma Productions has sold a 50% stake to business tycoon Adar Poonawalla for an investment reportedly worth Rs 1000 crore. Recently, both Adar and Karan Johar were seen together at Manish Malhotra's Diwali party, where they posed for the paparazzi after announcing their partnership.
