The wait for Dhanush fans who couldn’t go to the theatres to watch Karnan might be over. According to rumours, the acclaimed Tamil film could drop on Amazon Prime Video on May 14.
While the OTT release date is yet to be officially announced, the streamer had initially planned to release the Kollywood movie, helmed by Pariyerum Perumal director Mari Selvaraj, on March 9 before pushing it to next week.
Karnan has been widely hailed by critics and audiences alike as the best Tamil film yet, dealing with subjects such as casteism and oppression. Dhanush plays a rebellious youth in the movie, which also has Malayalam actors Rajisha Vijayan and Lal in pivotal roles. Amazon Prime Video is expected to officially announce the movie’s release date soon.
Meanwhile, Dhanush’s Jagame Thandhiram is heading for a direct-to-OTT release on Netflix on June 18. The makers have already released the dubbed teasers for the Karthik Subbaraj directorial in several languages including Malayalam and Telugu.
Jagame Thandiram also has Joju George, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Kalaiyarasan and James Cosmo, who played Jeor Mormont in Game of Thrones, as part of the cast. The film was extensively shot abroad before the pandemic.
Dhanush, meanwhile, has completed shooting for his Bollywood film Atrangi Re, which has Akshay Kumar and Sara Ali Khan, and finished portions from Kartik Naren’s upcoming movie. The Tamil actor is currently in the USA shooting for Netflix production The Gray Man, which has Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling in the lead.
