Sans any doubt, Dhamaka was one of the biggest surprise hits in 2022. While the music by Bheems Ceciroleo was popular prior to its release, not many expected the film to be a crowd puller, given Ravi Teja’s recent form. However, at the ticket window, it was a different story altogether. It’s precisely the reason why cinema is fascinating - you can never be too sure of a film’s fate and predict audience’s response. Dhamaka, directed by Trinadha Rao Nakkina, overcame many apprehensions to click with crowds.

As a story too, Dhamaka didn’t try to do anything out of the box. It’s a mishamash of many entertainers one has watched over the decades - from a Rowdy Alludu to an Ala Vaikunthapurramulo, packaged smartly enough to elicit the best out of Ravi Teja. Another major bonus for the makers was the presence of Sreeleela, who wasn’t only terrific in the dance numbers, but matched Ravi Teja’s comic timing effectively. The presence of veterans like Jayaram, Rao Ramesh, Tulasi, Sachin Khedekar helped the team too.

After an impressive theatrical run for over a month, while also grossing a decent sum during the Sankranthi season, Dhamaka is out on OTT. The film is now streaming on Netflix. The film is expected to be an ideal watch on OTT too with the right mix of emotions, humour, action and romance. Films like Dhamaka and Waltair Veerayya have proved that it’s possible to draw crowds to theatres with mass entertainers even in post COVID-19 scenario, where content-driven films were believed to have an edge.

TG Vishwa Prasad of People Media Factory produced the film in association with Abhishek Agarwal Pictures. Karthik Gattamneni cranked the camera for the film for which Sri Nagendra Tangala was the production designer. Prawin Pudi edited the entertainer whose story, screenplay and dialogues were written by Prasanna Kumar Bezawada.
