Producer Deepak Mukut entered the film industry with a hope to make meaningful, sensible cinema for audiences, irrespective of the scale. His desire hasn’t changed with time, even as his budgets grew bigger with every project. He was in the news last for bankrolling two films - Kangana Ranaut’s actioner Dhaakad and the thriller Forensic starring Vikram Massey, Radhika Apte.
In 2023, his determination to back quality cinema has only grown stronger, even as his films underperformed and received mixed responses from audiences. He hopes to make ‘lavish, impactful and intriguing’ films this year as well. He claims to be undeterred by the failure of Dhaakad and has taken things in his stride, while backing entertaining stories and risks most wouldn’t dip their hand into.
“It hasn’t dampened his spirit and he has in fact, seen the positive side to it, while paving a path for several women-centric actioners in the future,” a source close to him says. Two of Deepak Mukut’s upcoming projects have already wrapped up shoot. One among them is Kanjoos Makkhichoos, that features Kunal Kemmu and Shweta Tripathi in pivotal roles, slated to release in the first quarter of 2023.
Another film, Blind Game, produced by Mukut, brings together Arjun Rampal and Priyamani, which is expected to release this year as well. In addition, he has also set his eyes on a horror comedy titled The Virgin Tree, which is led Sanjay Dutt alongside Sunny Singh, Mouni Roy and Palak Tiwari. The shoot of the comedy has neared completion and the filming will be completed by February.
That’s not all, Deepak Mukut is considering several other pathbreaking scripts, which will go on floors shortly. Both of his earlier films, Dhaakand and Forensic, are streaming on the leading OTT platform ZEE5.
