Dhaakad seemed to have failed in living up to its hype when it came to box office earnings. The spy thriller, which released on May 20, witnessed an abysmal opening day and did not succeed in picking up its box office numbers as the days went by. And now it seems that the makers are having a hard time when it comes to selling the film’s OTT rights as well.
According to a report in Bollywood Hungama, the makers of Kangana Ranaut’s film had decided not to sell the film’s OTT and satellite rights until after its theatrical release, hoping to get a better deal. Such rights of a film were usually sold before its release, but since Dhaakad’s makers decided to go this way, there was no mention of the film’s OTT and the satellite partners in its opening slate.
A source told the portal that owing to Dhaakad’s poor box office run, the makers could no longer expect to get a good deal on the film’s OTT and satellite rights. A recertification process before its premiere on TV, coupled with the fact that rumours were abound about the film’s quality, all added to the makers’ woes. The source also added that the makers were trying to sell the film’s rights to Amazon Prime Video.
Dhaakad had managed to rake in only about Rs 50 lakhs on its opening day, and its collective box office collections are expected to be only about Rs 3 crore. Reports have emerged that many of the shows were also cancelled owing to lack of audiences, and replaced with shows of Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2.
