Dexter: New Blood – Michael C. Hall describes reprising role as a ‘wild’ and ‘creepy’ experience

After a gap of almost eight years, everyone’s favourite serial killer is making a bloody comeback. Dexter: New Blood sees the titular anti hero return to screens, albeit a bit out of practise in his ways. Michael C. Hall calls his return as the iconic character something in the likes of which he had never done before.

In conversation with Deadline, Hall describes the experience of playing Dexter Morgan after the long hiatus as both a ‘wild’ and ‘creepy’ experience. He revealed how after eight years of playing the disturbed character revisiting him was an exciting feeling, especially after an eight year gap.

The Golden Globe winning actor also talked about how he was able to identify with his character’s sluggish return to his usual ways, saying that emulating the role after the long break also felt strange in many ways.

Hall also let in on the kind of difficulties his character faced after resuming his killer ways, especially since the newer technology made it much more difficult for him to not leave evidence. He also gave his reasoning for the character’s relationship with his estranged son, saying that Dexter wanted to protect his child from his dark ways which had earlier led to the death of his loved ones.

Based on the 2004 novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter, Dexter tells the story of the titular forensic technician who is also a serial killer.

Set almost a decade after the events of the last episode of the original, Dexter- New Blood will follow Dexter Morgan after he had built a new identity and life for himself, free of crime. But as luck would have it, his old murderous tendencies start popping up yet again and indulging them this time proves to be a much more difficult task than before.
