Vidharth’s horror thriller Devil, which was released in theatres earlier this year, is now gearing up for its OTT premiere. Written and directed by Aathityaa, the Tamil film will be available to be streamed on Aha (Tamil) from April 12. The film, which was released on the big screens on February 2, failed to do well at the box office. Starring Poorna, Vidharth and Thrigun in the lead roles, it is looking to change its luck on OTT.
Helmed by director Mysskin’s brother Aathityaa, who is best known for the 2018 film Savarakathi, Devil is a horror thriller that revolves around Hema (played by Poorna). She is ignored by her newly-married husband, Alex (Vidharth), who, unknown to her, is having an affair with his employee, Sophia. One day, Hema meets Arun after a road accident and forms a bond with him. However, there is more to what meets the eye.
After its theatrical release, Devil received harsh criticism for its confusing plot, which is a result of an inconsistent screenplay. The performance of the actors were also heavily criticised, leading to the film’s box office failure. OTTplay’s review read, “Devil is straightforward and wafer thin and no efforts have been made in its treatment or writing whatsoever. The film’s title is in reference to itself and the torments it unleashes on the audience.” As the film gears up for its OTT release, the makers expect the film to reach a wider audience and have a better impact.
Mysskin, who also stars in the film, debuted as a music director with Devil. The film also has Adith Arun and Subhashree Rayaguru in key roles.
During a press meet for Devil, Mysskin revealed that he was reluctant to help his brother Aathithya enter the film industry. "As far as I am concerned, only those who have had a difficult childhood will be able to do great things in life later on,” Mysskin said. He added, “When my brother asked me if he could join me as my assistant director, I couldn't take him seriously. I told him that he needed to work under another director and then come to me. He worked with director Parthiban for a couple of years. It was only then that I took him on as an assistant director,” Mysskin revealed.
