Nandamuri Kalyan Ram, who played a triple role for the first time in his career in Amigos, is gearing up for another challenge as a performer. He’s starring in a pre-independence era thriller titled Devil, where he shares screenspace alongside Samyuktha Menon, Malvika Nair. The film, produced by Abhishek Pictures, is written by Srikanth Vissa and directed by Naveen Medaram.
Commemorating Kalyan Ram’s birthday, the film’s first glimpse was launched today. “Here’s the intense & power-packed #DevilGlimpse. Happy Birthday to our Dearest @NANDAMURIKALYAN Garu ! Witness him as a fearless British secret agent. A Film by ABHISHEK PICTURES. #Devil,” the makers wrote as they shared the glimpse on social media.
The glimpse commences with a ship entering India in the pre-independence era and naval officers hurriedly moving in and out of their workspace while offering a peek into a few characters who’re caged and tortured. The focus shifts to a British secret agent - Devil - who never lets his words, expressions reflect his thoughts in the mind. The alluring ambience contributes to its appeal.
The dialogue ‘Medadulo unna alochana..matallo bayata padakudadu..ade gudachariki undavalsina mukhyamaina lakshanam..’ piques your curiosity. Samyuktha Menon looks ethereal in a periodic story, reuniting with Kalyan Ram after Bimbisara. Kalyan Ram’s look in the film appears to be inspired by Byomkesh Bakshi’s avatar and it suits him well. The high-voltage action sequences are an added attraction.
Harshavardhan Rameshwar is scoring the music for the film which has cinematography by Soundar S Rajan. Gandhi Nadikudikar is the production designer and Tammiraju is the editor. Devansh Nama is the presenter and Abhishek Nama, who earlier backed Ravanasura this year, is the producer. The release date of the action thriller hasn’t been announced yet.
