Devadoothan re-release: Sibi Malayil, Vidya Sagar react to Mohanlal film’s newfound success

Devadoothan, the 2000 Mohanlal starrer, had its global re-release on Friday, July 26, 2024. Director Sibi Malayil's film, which is scripted by Raghunath Paleri, failed at the box office when it was released in 2000. However, the music score composed by Vidya Sagar has remained a favourite. The movie, on the other hand, earned cult status after its satellite release. 

Devadoothan, which is now re-released in 4K format, has emerged as a major success. Director Sibi Malayil and music composer Vidya Sagar reacted to the success in a recent interaction with the media.

Director Sibi Malayil, who is overwhelmed with the extraordinary responses towards the Devadoothan 4K version, pointed out that no other filmmaker would have gone through an experience like this before. 

The filmmaker, who recalled how audiences discarded the Mohanlal starrer after its first show in 2000, stated that a success of this magnitude was unexpected. 

Vidya Sagar, who has been receiving immense love for the extraordinary music score he created for Devadoothan, thanked the audiences for their positive response to the new version of the film.

Devadoothan 4K gets overwhelming response from audience

Malayalam cine-goers across the globe, especially those who missed watching Devadoothan in theatres during its original release, are now showering love on the film after its re-release in 4K format. 

Netizens are heaping praise on the technical team’s brilliant work with the remastering of the film and the updated new version of the film, which stays away from all the star service elements. The film fanatics, who are overwhelmed with the wholesome theatrical experience are sharing their joy on social media.

The movie made a total collection of Rs. 50 lakh at the worldwide box office on Day 1. As per the reports, Devadoothan is being screened on over 100 screens in Kerala alone on Day 2, with houseful shows in all major cities. If things proceed at the same rate, the Mohanlal starrer might collect over Rs. 2 crore from the worldwide box office and set a new record within its first weekend at the theatres.
